I rather prefer the Wren at the far right-hand end...
Dunno what lookers wings look like - what's that on the arm of the twoandahalfer seated three to the right of my OM, next to the pusser with the milkbottle specs? They look a different shape to the wings worn by the captain in the front row.
And comparing milkbottle's stripes with my OM's, it definitely appears to me that my father was still a Lieutenant there, which seems to confirm that this was while he was stationed at Daedalus, 43-45.
And why might the Commander between milkbottle and my Dad not be wearing braid on his cap?

Gainsey's choice is very, very worrying

CS,
The location in your photo seems very familiar. The reason I suggested HMS Dryad, is that some 15 years ago I was on a Maritime Ops acquaint course at Dryad, but not the main site. It was at a large house in the same area. At least, I recall leaving the motorway at the Boarhunt junction and then following narrow lanes to the location, in a very quiet valley. I'll try to joggle the remaining brain cells to see if I can recall any more info.

Could be - I've found some pics of the hotel that make it look possible.
Note I've had from the RN Association suggests it's Condor.
I've emailed the pic to the hotel asking them if they can identify the location, or any other details.

Think he is Admiral Bruce Fraser. In 1943 he was Vice-Admiral Commanding 2nd Battle Squadron & Second-in-Command, Home Fleet (HMS Anson). The photo is of a Rear Admiral, so maybe the Photograph, was taken before 43?? if correct . He does look like him?? Admiral of the Fleet Sir Bruce Austin Fraser G.C.B., K.B.E., Baron Fraser of North Cape sp

david - no, I don't think it is. There is a resemblance, certainly, but there are a couple of things against.
Firstly, I can't think what Fraser would have been doing with a bunch of aircrew officers at (probably) either Daedalus or Condor.
Secondly, the dates are wrong. The OM was commissioned in 1942 with seniority back to 1st. Feb 1941. He made Lt. Cdr just after the war ended. He's quite clearly wearing a Lt's bars in this pic, one promotion after being commissioned. So the pic has to be sometime 43-ish onwards. Fraser was already a Vice Admiral in May 1940, and the bloke in the pic is quite clearly a Rear.

Where hats bigger in the black and white world or heads smaller?
I'm confused!
(Wasn't the Seafield park Wessex just used for winching the birds during course parties? Who can forget that bl**dy ring and hook game in the bar as well! Cost me loads of beer!)

I've now heard back from the Rosely House Hotel, and they say it's not them.
They do, though think it might be another nearby house, Ashbrook House (formerly the home of Sir Francis Webster - who he? - and family) but now demolished. The people at Rosely don't know what Ashbrook was used for during/after WWII, but they know that Condor did use it.
Is anyone else familiar with this place?

If Sir Francis Webster involved, he was the local mill owner. Take a look at the following: - The Scottish War Memorials Project :: View topic - Alma Works & Netherward Works , ARBROATH
Still haven't found out about the house though.
