Next stop.... Yemen

Well, out of the cauldron and into the fire. Looks like Yemen will be on the cards in the very near future too. I would imagine with our history of influence in nearby Oman and the local area, the the Sultan may request a Brit presence to temper US adventurism?

Mirbat II for Troops' Hereford maybe? Best reinforce the Gendarme Fort - it was looking a little unloved when I was there last....

Maybe not Yemen but two other hotspots for us to think about.

One is rather hot and sandy the other not so. In relation to N. Ireland are there any spare helicopters left in the box? As I think PSNI only have one of their own!

I think a reported target of the IRA (or whatever they call themselves now) are city bankers.
Might just look the other way, only this time though.....

Thank goodness these warnings of new terrorist attacks have come before the Defence cuts have been actioned, otherwise we may have inadvertantly cut money from some of these departments. Good to see some pro-active and objective thinking for once.

Who'd have thought we could become embroiled in an insurgency war again?

Perfect operating areas for carriers and their strike groups (Yemen not being land-locked and that...).

No need.

Half a dozen marines could take Socotra.

Besides, Saudi Arabia is rendering active assistance to Yemen... I really don't expect any significant Western forces will be asked to assist.

Most likely this will remain an "all-Arab" effort, as all that is being asked so far is for material supplies.

So far.

YEMEN

Yes, been there already, recall PR det from secret med base to Saana in early 70's. Brit Embassy wine cellar was hit hard - well we were in tents, and the alternative entertainment was watching films projected onto a sheet hung over a fire tender, whilst drinking the rationed beer flown out by herc!
