Question previous military experience/NCO aircrew

I ask the following on behalf of my son (at present overseas) unable at this time to ask the forum these questions himself:

I've heard that both RN and RAF have more relaxed entry criteria (pilots/observers/MERT esp) for those with previous (active) military experience, e.g. NCOs (rather than officers), raised age at entry, and more relaxed eyesight criteria, educational requirements etc.

Where or how do I find out about all the criteria that apply in his case?
