Brought a smile to my face

Watching a program about the development of Cruise Missiles.

Sqn Ldr Terry Spencer is explaining how they engaged V1's in their Spitfire.

They power dived into the V1 to get the speed needed to catch up with the monsters.

He explains:

"I was stupid enough to come in dead astern and opened fire on the V1 and the thing blew up and made an awful mess of the Spitfire"

And the best bit:

"So One never did that again. You learnt that very quickly"

And he gave a wry smile.

He went on to become known as 'Tip em up Terry' by the papers apparently as he perfected the art of tipping the V1 wing to make them crash.
