Forgive me if I'm being dull, but why are the three gents on the top during the road journey?

The aircraft has three servo jacks for the Main Rotor Head. They are ensuring that the servo jacks remain in place and do not shift past the centre of gravity.

TOTD,
The probable reason is some sort of obstruction or obstacle that needs them ready to give warning or lift telephone wires or tree limbs over the road. (try recovering a Seaking from Predannack to Culdrose by road!), they certainly wouldn't be on top the whole way.
The main servos have a bypass that opens when hydraulics are released, allowing the elastomeric bearings to unwind to their in-flight position. It would take a strong man to move them without hydraulics!
