If you add up 1 Jul 09 and 1 Jan 10 Sqn Ldr to Wg Cdr list you get just 46!
For the past few years there is usually 65-70.
I guess this is the start of the rumoured "trim down" of SO2s and above? A little "dicky bird" tells me that the 2010 Flying Branch SO1 Board could be as low as 30
The recent Nov 09 SO2 promotion list also fell short at about 60-70, when the previous years were 100-120.
Promotion over the next few years would appear to be getting tougher.
Congrats to those that are on this list

Only 46 new Wg Cdr's, how are we going to cope, and as for Sqn Ldr promotions, well i think the integrity of the RAF is in serious danger. Guess all those non-secondary duties will still have to be done to improve the assessments of our up and coming elite to ensure promotion next time. Trouble is who is going to do the primary tasks???? oh i know, those who always do it and so haven't got time for a non-secondary duty.

Well I've been out a few years, but Mr Stringer and Potter big congrats
Nice to know there's some talent left
(although that's based on Stringer's cooking and Potter's drinking)

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could

That looks like a really thin list across the board.
Glad I gave up ambitions the day PA came in.
But at least the only names I recognise are top notch. Maybe the system does actually work?? (Or I know far too few people??)

That's 36 Wg Cdrs without counting OC Ops Wg and the 22Gp CFIs and Sqn Cdrs. Therefore, 46 per year would just about provide enough for the standing commitments for command with 1yr in staff college, an 18mth SO1 staff tour and an OCU/refresher (that is before SDR 2010 hits!).

Gosh, yet another of my ex-students made Gp Capt.
But all my peers seem to be either retired or dead!

As an aside - as an 'ex' I find it deeply disturbing and disappointing to see so few red dots on the map nowadays.

Boulmer,Cosford, Shawbury, Woodvale & Wyton should be red as each is an RAF owned and operated station with resident aircraft. That said, a 'red dot' normally signifies 'sold' in an art gallery or auction room so perhaps the demise of the RAF is closer then most expect
Aldergrove on the other hand is no longer an RAF flying station.
