UAS Private Forum
If anyone out there is a student member of a UAS, I have suggested to www, and he is willing to set up a UAS private forum if there is enough interest in it. We have quite a few hundred members, including ground branch members, and a private discussion forum would be useful to pass on information about all the things we experience, which would be less wise to pass on to anyone at all who reads the public forums, such as the success of the Grob, good or bad stations for SVAs, and support for others for OASC, providing more freedom to post as well. If there is enough interest, WWW is prepared to set it up.
I know that many of you will be starting summer camp about now, so I will keep bringing this to the top of the forums with a blank posting every so often, if nobody else posts on it.
If you are a current UAS member, and agree that this should go ahead, please e-mail myself at [email protected] or alternatively e-mail [email protected] though I don't want to clog up his e-mail. This posting is repeated in the Wannabes forum.

Would there be any value adding Air Cadets to that forum?? I know a huge amount read the board, and they are as close to the UAS as anything else?
If you dont like the idea, say so!!! Dont want to ruin your forum before it even starts!
Cheers,
Metman

Yes, I guess Air Cadets as well may be a good idea, especially, as we are so closely linked to many AEFs. However, they may not be interested in the topics for which the forum would be used by UAS studes ie operational stuff and inter-squadron events, but more in the recruitment information for which the wannabes forum is more suitable. I dunno really: I guess WWW would be open to suggestions.

offcdt,
The mentioning of Air Cadets got me interested. I recently visited EMUAS on work experience with the instructors from CFS. After my trip I was certain that that was what I wanted to do, join a UAS when I was at that age. I would be interested on the forum as it would give a good insight into your lives as cadets at a UAS. Anyway, I would be grateful if we were invited to be in this forum,
CC.

A private forum is all well and good if you just want to talk about passing the odd exam or so, or even facilities at other sqns' stations. However there are a lot of us out here with all sorts of experience, from student to instructor who will pass on their knowledge with pleasure. However if you do go private on the forum you must moderate it well. The RAF powers that be regard collusion in examinations as a BIG NO NO. Don't pass on or post exam paper answers. Hints are OK though.

A re-post maybe because I can't find the original.
If you want to have a private forum for UAS what topics will you discuss?
If you are only talking about good locations for summer camp, party dates and the likes it will work. However the moderator here will have to be on his/her toes to ensure that topics such as the "Answers" to certain aviation related exams are not displayed and slagging of sqn personalities remains at banter level only. If you read a few forums in other areas you will see how quickly tempers rise and words are used unadvisadly (fizzog for example and indeed the chap you asked to allow this forum bear witness to the point I allude)with retractions and apologies in order.
Also the military powers that be would take exception to collusion in a bigger way than the CAA if someone at WWW's flying club posted all the answers to current PPL/CPL exam papers.
AND if you believe your forum will not be viewed by 'authority' think again. Some of the doddery old farts have worked out how to change names and become accepted as something they are not to be able to find out what's going on. There is no way an easily traceable email address would be left with a civilian moderating a topic within the military sites.
As an aside, don't you think it better that all UAS members have an input? After all most ex-members have something to give and would gladly share their experience if asked. I have been a member of 4 different UASs over the long years at various times, ranging from student to CFI and would be pleased to pass on help, if a little out date at the moment, but if help is needed, as the saying goes "I know a man who can".

Agree with what you say: don't know who would moderate, but I would be prepared to do so. I do not think sharing of exams would happen: I people wanted to do it, they would be less obvious about it eg direct e-mail to each other. Most are honest enough, and it will only be their loss. Whoever moderates would not allow personal attacks either: it can lead to litigation. True, many ex-UAS members offer a lot of advice, as do the staff, however, it is a student perspective, and regarding past members, things do change quickly ie the introduction of the Grob Tutor. Help is welcome though.

It was intended as a students only forum, but there seems a lot of interest from former members and staff as well, so I don't know. It could manage I think, as it is anonymous. It would be to organise ents, and help with OASC, anything useful going over to wannabes etc, but remain private so not as to divulge some things such as meeting places to the general public.

SUAS:
Sounds like a good idea, we've got our own version of the pprune network on our web site. www.airsquadron.co.uk
Sadly it's members access only at the moment.
BUT!
I could open it up to all the air suqadrons if there is sufficient demand for it! Pending the Boss' approval of course.

Ex SUAS here, too many years ago. How's life down there?
Interestingly in a later life at Boscombe myself (Engineer) and two test pilots got two Bulldogs to play with (testing some late-in-life mods). Turned out that we'd all flown one or other of them on a UAS.
I suspect that given the breadth of experience in here, UAS discussions would be better in the military pilots forum rather than locked away.

SUAS is still alive and well, although limited to one runway due to the harrier crash!
The UAS forum would not be locked away, it would be public access for all.
It would be moderated by UAS people.
Each UAS could have their own privite banter areas, and there could be common areas that all members could post messages in.
Just an idea. Although I do agree that input from other "non UAS" people would be a good thing.
