Post God help us with questions like this! (UAS Query)

Going to easter camp rather soon, and wasn't a space cadet in my time.. .. .My point is-the beret-is it supposed to keep its shape even when off the head, or is it ok to have to pull it across the head when placed on one's dome? . .. .If my QFIs see this then plz don't take the...and if they don't then plz don't tell them.. .. .Cheers and ta. .. .ScottishSteve

The best way to shape a beret is to firstly stick it in a washing machine on a very hot wash, then shape it to your head. Then stick it in the freezer compartment of your fridge while still damp and freeze for a day. Thaw it out and it will look like its been on campaign for years.. .. .Do try this one at home kids.

I always thought it was the norm for UAS Cadets and Cranditz cadets to have a v unique style of berret. Helicopter landing pad style <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />

Steve,

1/ Cut the plastic bit out of the inside.

2/ Pin the metal backing in, but not the badge.

3/ Soak it in water.

4/ Using a mirror, arrange it on your head in a dashing and eye-catching style, pulling a crease over the metal bit.

5/ Use a tea towel and hot iron to press the crease.

6/ Put overnight on a hot radiator to dry in position. In the morning take out the metal backing and put in the badge.

Alternatively, just throw it away and buy a sidecap!

Thumbs up

I'm with tickety boo (except the Crease bit-it's bad enough having to iron a shirt)

remember an unshaped beret is the preserve of crusty old Chief Tech's and above (cuz they've forgotten how to/ can't be arsed to shape it!!)

oh and once you've tied the headband cord - cut the bloody tassle off - or "Mick the Stick" will remind you "you ain't in the French air foorce now Laddy!"

Talking

According to reliable (?!) sources, the best way to shape a beret is to partake of a long, hard, 'moral boosting' slog for thirty odd miles in a thunderstorm.

Getting the beret off was a problem, but it never lost it's shape!!

(P.s. Anyone know what's happened to the smilies? Reading people's posts is getting _really_ difficult if they use them!!)
