Pensions

Sorry to be a bit lazy but before I write to the pensions payroll a quick question for you savvy financiers out there. I left the RAF in 1992 on a 16/38 pension. I got married in 2006. Does my wife qualify for a widows pension? If not do my children qualify at all?

All the info you need is here:

Widow’s or Widower’s
Eligibility
For your widow or widower to
be entitled to receive pension
benefits, the following
conditions apply:
• you must be married at the
time of your death;
• only a legal spouse can
receive a widow’s or
widower’s pension;
• only a decree absolute
ends a marriage and a
widow’s or widower’s
pension entitlement.
(Neither separation nor a
decree nisi is considered
as ending a marriage).

See page 16 of the link;

• if you married after leaving
the Armed Forces, only
service given on or after 6
April 1978 will count towards
your widow’s pension (this is
known as a post-retirement
widow’s pension).

I'm in that position.

What's the score if you get remarried after leaving the service. Does the new one qualify?
