As long as that image does not allow 'some people' to associate the Poppy with the Cross, then associate the Cross with the Crusades and in turn, associate the Poppy with the Crusades. In particular the Crusades that 'some' believe are going on at the moment in 'their country...

I would like to have joined lampeterexile in his elegant economy of words, but I feel I must go a little further, and say that I think we should wrap this up now, and confine ourselves to silent and respectful contemplation. I can't think that it is either dignified or respectful to squabble over how the fallen are to be remembered. Let us just remember them, in silence - now. Thank you.

Below is a you-tube link to a Stackridge song called 'North St Grande' which was due for Xmas release - however, prior to that, the song has been released on you-tube with animation done by schoolchildren, many with parents in the forces serving abroad on operations.
The notes at the side of the clip explain more - I suggest that you read them first. The messages from the children at the end are very emotional. It is even more poignant in light of yesterdays awful news from Afghanistan
I would also recommend this clip - another song by Stackridge animated in the same style - it is a wonderful interpretation and again, poignancy is added in light of it being the 70th Anniversary of the start of WWII.
Fotr those who have never heard of Stackridge, they are a quintessentially English band, originally formed in the early 70s. They have reformed and the tracks are off their magnificent new album 'A Victory For Common Sense'.

let us also remember the members of the TA and reserve forces who are often laughed at by the uniformed public. The TA make up one third of the British Army and are certainly not just in a club, I quietly remember one of them who never returned from Iraq after being called up.

These past days have seen too many of our fallen heroes coming home at just the time we think of ALL our fallen heroes. When hearts and minds are full and we give thanks for their ultimate sacrifice. The poppy is synonymous with this time of year and the cross is a symbol of faith and pride forever - whoever wears them.
