Merlins Night Flying

Very quiet aren't they? About 7sec of rumbly artic-on-a-bad-road sort of noise is all the warning you get till they're over and gone. Got to be a tactical plus, contrast the Wokka's good three minutes. Bit predictable though, @ TQ234281 at 22.11 on Wednesday same again last night at 22.13. Can we have some daylight passes from the West pls, be nice to get some pics?

Hmm, there's a thought, Wokka parades up and down making racket while Merlins snik in and do the biz?

Their noise suppression is pretty impressive at low-level, as is the Apache's for that matter. The Merlins do make a strange whispering noise just as soon as they've passed - kind of similar to a Hind.

Are you on about the strange noise that comes from the rotors?
Sort of like a whispering whistle of a bird...

The Mi-17s of Qinetiq make exactly the same type noise when going overhead and just behind.

Those Mi-17's do sound strange don't they. Regularly see them flying around the SPTA but ore often than not I hear them coming first....very odd noise.

My field boundary's a bit untidy - are they free to do hedge trimming ?
