1. Wildenrath in the seventies, definitely the best (and that is speaking as enlisted s**t, can't speak for you orificer johnnys!!)
2. The best is a relative term...all RAF bases are better than any army bases.
3. Of course Gutersloh is S**t now that the army is there. The vehicles are in the aircraft hangers and the helicopters are on the peri track, but what do you expect, you shouldn't have bu**ered off, should you?

Have to agree with Blacksheep's proposal of Changi - I spent a very happy childhood there. Having revisited the place since, it's nice to see that Singapore's Armed Forces are putting the place to good use, although sadly many of the original RAF buildings are now decrepit because they lack air conditioning - in fact the saddest thing to see was that the Lloyd Leas MQs are now used as a punishment centre for druggies: No Air Conditioning = Harsh Punishment in today's Singapore!
As to my own service, I was happy at Newton, but very cold in the wartime Nissen huts St Mawgan then used for visiting officers - it was enough to drive a man to the bar, fortunately!

If I may be allowed to go back more than a few years.
The best by a country mile, Tangmere.
Reasonably close to London, all the south coast at hand, great spirit and competition between squadrons.
The worst, Halfpenny Green in the winter.
Ye Gods, I don't think Scott could have suffered much more than we did at that place.

Without a doubt the best has to be RAF Middle Wallop - or the School of Army Aviation as it was then. Not so great as a student - lots of pressure - but as staff it was great, good flying, great people and wonderful Hampshire pubs!

Worst.. a toss up between Kinloss cause I hated the job and a few of the people or MPA on Ilas Malvinas cause its there (though I have some great times there, but it is a bit of a dump).
Best, well Leuchars is a great place and the best place I have ever been posted to. As an aside, although not an RAF base, but its on UK soil, the mess at Diago Garcia is a difficult place to bet for sundowners!!

Can't have been the Wyton of the late 80's. 3 Canberra sqns with no egos and no pressure. A mess that actually had a spirit/life even if we had to share it with the PI School !!! Brawdy comes a very very close second - like Chivenor only without the traffic in the summer.
Valley, after only serving 3 weeks there it has to be the worst. No question, no doubt.

Best by a long way - Binbrook, the forgotten flying club. It was home to the Lightning that was there to defend Binbrook. Everybody knew everybody and a really friendly place. SAC Scott Dodd (FLM)used to play as on of the pilots whenever we had a new SEngO on 11 Sqn - Took a week on average to cotton on! Xmas present was a Mk 3 with no belly tank fitted Yee Haa!!
Worst by far - Valley. My wife has only seen the place once and has threatened to divorce me if I ever get posted there. Can't say I blame her, it's the carbuncle on the backside of humanity! Hapiness is Anglesey in the rear view mirror.
