fish Rompers Green to Close?

I understand from a military friend that Lyneham has been chosen over Brize and St Mawgan for closure by 2005. This may not mean much as the rumoured closure has been going on since the late 70s, but I understand that the MOD bean counters mean business this time. (This is not a puff for the Carterton Chamber of Commerce.....)

Wink

Lyneham may close as an RAF base but the hot
rumour is that the pongoes will move in to
take over leaving airfield facilities intact
for exercises and deployments when required.
At least the locals will not have the noise of Albert droning around the circuit day in
and day out even if downtown Wootton Basset
will be more like Aldershot on a saturday
night !

Being like Aldershot on a Sat. night is not as it was 4 years ago. Since Meat'n'Veg moved out it has become more like any other place. Colchester... now there is a different story!!
Any way thats a far too sensible move. More like they'll make it a RNAS!!!

By 2005? The last aircraft from the last Pale Jade won't be back by then.
