RAF Waddington Friday arrivals
I attended on Saturday, and had quite an enjoyable day (394 photos) but on the whole, the show was disappointing with its lack of noisy heavy metal. May I ask if the display line was moved further away from the crowd this year and also was the display minimum height raised? All displays seemed to be further away and higher this year. Apart from the take-offs and landing, you now require a large zoom to get any decent shots. Best display I thought was the Chinook.

Display Line
Argonautical, the Display Line and heights were the same as each year. Display line is 230m from the crowd and cleared height varies between 100 and 300 feet depending on the aircraft, what the manoeuvre is and their clearance (Their own Display Authorisation).

You get a really good view of the landing area from being strapped in inside the cabin
He doesn't need a good view of the landing area. Thats why the pilots have been provided with bloomin big windows to look out of.
If this was an approach into a confined area then his role is to check that the aircraft is clear of obstructions and that the landing site is suitable, slope, surround etc etc ... but this was RAF Waddington. there are no obstructions.... the landing site is safe, no slope and a thorough FOD plod was conducted.

(Those were the days when you could walk across an Apron without wearing hi-vis though)
The only time we had to strap in was when starting the second engine and releasing the rotor brake, apart from that we were on the Monkey harness from lift off until we jumped out to do the stops
Edited to say, went to Waddo on the Saturday, very disappointed with the flying display
