Prince Edward and Wado

Whilst looking on RAF Site a question arose...

Out of interest, any reason why HRH Prince Edward is wearing a 'junior' officers cap badge on an Air Ranks cap? He's a Hon. Air Commodore, but still....

Perhaps it was Funny Hat Day at Waddington, judging by the officer in the background of the photograph with the tea cosy perched on top of his head!

Jack

PS And he's lost control of his tie as well - where is the SWO when you need him .....

Is it the same joke as: "Why does Noddy have a bell on his hat?"

I used to know the answer to that one.....

I know, I know, hat, coat, door!

Perhaps one of our (all too regular) no fly days?

At least the chap to Eddie's left knows how long to do his tie and also to tuck the thinner end into the fatter or to tuck it into his shirt. Or maybe he is wearing a clip on.
He's also the only one who seems to have walked past the SWO's door recently. 'Hey lad.....come here.......aircut'!

Legal

Stable belts were never part of the uniform - they were an optional, buy yourself, add on and so the wearing should/could never be enforced (in the same way that the RAF cummerbund is an option to a sqn/stn/unit cummerbund or the waistcoat for Mess Kit). That, I believe, is still the case (but may have changed recently - blues not being part of day to day London rig I tend to give uniform a mild ignore - with the introduction of the "new" (copied from the Rocks) stable belt with metal buckle).

When Charles reviewed the reserve forces at Lyneham a couple of years ago, the blue shirt he wore with his no 1 uniform wasn't a light blue one but was in fact very small blue and white checks.... most disconcerting as I noticed it while he was talking to me, and I couldn't concentrate on what he was saying after that.....

Standards have certainly dropped at Waddo.....

In the programme of events in the VI, one of the items was:

"Arrival at FWHQ VIP Entrance (Opportunity for a comfort break)"

This was followed immediately by

"Wash Up with the Station Commander".

I assume that the toilet was blocked again with no cash to fix it. At least it got cleaned up quickly.
