The polite way first....

1. There seems to be a 'I love Nimrod' desire to start a new thread. There were 5 running but they have been merged or thinned out now.

Please avoid this and others like it.

2. Abuse, rudeness and just plain 'ol bad manners are being noticed regularly and this must stop.

It seems that banter can have a better impact for some - if made to sound a little more butch by swearing (hidden or otherwise). Swearing is actually banned on PPRuNe. But......we also recognize that it is mostly used by those without the necessary vocabulary to refrain from doing so.

However, abuse, snide and slagging as well as downright bad manners, are not welcome here. Banter is - but controlled. I well recall the fun and need for it as a matter of fact.

What is worrying is that a lot of good people are not making contributions on here anymore and my mail tells me that they are fed-up with those who seem to think that under the coat of anonymity we provide they can abuse whoever they wish however they wish. Wrong!

Its simple really. If you want to have a go at people and are not prepared to be grown up then find yourself another site.

We still rely on a good measure of self moderation on this forum, we always will, but sometimes...............................

Otherwise re-read the rules of PPRuNe that you signed up for and participate in one of the best forums of its type. You are welcome.

Have fun.

Thumbs up

I believe deliberately bumping a thread without adding to the discussion (to keep a thread near the top of the front page)is deemed inappropriate. Therefore, well said Pop.

I for one would like to see a comparison between the Nimrod, Orion & the modified 737 ( I forget the designation ).

The latter might seem expensive, but now we've chopped the MRA4 numbers, might seem a bargain ?!

Of course jobs are involved, but to seem old-fashioned, defence is more important, and if locals can't come up with the goods go elsewhere.

Even better, here's a novel idea, try kicking BAe Sytems up the tail end, bypass the accountants and come up with a new design ( probably involving Airbus ) !

I realise mega-bucks have been spent on the MRA4, so we're stuck with it for a while, but in future...

I don't think you really got the point of Pop's original post did you?

No, I think you missed the point of his post entirely, Gainsey.

PPRuNe Pop's or Double Zero's? PPRuNe Pop was trying to stop Nimrod Threads springing up like mushrooms and Double Zero instantly tagged a new Thread on to it. I'm not sure, though, if it was funnily clever or cleverly funny. Anyway, Gainesy made a perfectly fair observation.

Irony (from the Ancient Greek εἰρωνεία eironeía, meaning hypocrisy, deception, or feigned ignorance) is a literary or rhetorical device, in which there is an incongruity or discordance between what one says or does and what one means or what is generally understood. Irony is a mode of expression that calls attention to the character's knowledge and that of the audience.

"Baldrick, have you no idea what irony is?"
"Yeah! It's like goldy and bronzy, only it's made of iron!"
Prune Pop's timely post will hopefully put a few time-wasters back in their boxes. Or possibly all in the same box - for those who think that they can hide behind more than one nom-de-PPRuNe.
