Underground facility Corsham on fire

The storage bit run by Leafield. Everybody out, but about 50 fire-fighters on the scene which stores 'stuff' for the Navy.
Still burning about 100ft underground.

Nightmare. If it's anything like Copenacre (which must be pretty close by), the escape exit route is a long haul if you can't use the lifts.

Storing Stuff for the Navy!!

Wonder how long it will take for a certain Naval chap with a real inter service bee in his bonnet to accuse the light blue of starting the fire

Ouch - I've been down the old Government bunker there a few times - definitely not somewhere you want to be when theres a fire raging. The amount of hazardous material still lurking down there is scary.

That must be the place that was mentioned in a TV programme I saw recently. I understand it has its own railway station (disused), reached by a siding off the main line right inside the tunnel! They were being a bit coy about it, probably using a script heavily edited by MoD. Hope no one got hurt in the fire.

Spent many a night shift down in the quarry signals unit many a moon ago, exploring the tunnels etc and waiting for the odd "Pot Holer" to pop up on the CCTV!, can remember the fire drills and certainly would not like to have to carry "fred" the dummy up the stairs again!!

I have read several links similar to the one you posted. They are all very emotive in certain areas...A laugh a minute in fact. Whereas the onlookers are always happy innocent types, the guards and staff are always GRIM or SINISTER, and buildings are suspicious or imposing!.

Funnily enough, I pass by Corsham, Rudloe etc all the time, and the only menace I see are in yellow boxes on posts by the roadside

The only people who “have” that particular facility are http://www.leafield.co.uk/Leafield/index.html

Any link with the RN is largely historical.

Fork lift trucks are really not that interesting; even ones that catch fire.

Return to aviation; there is nothing to see here.

Everything regarding what is underneath Rudloe 2 site and Basil Hill now firmly in the public domain. BBC - Wiltshire - Wiltshire's Underground City - Burlington

The underground area at this point is connected to the Box tunnel complex to the west but does not go down as far as the Monks Park complex.
