Tres perceptive Evalu8ter. And in response to tucumseh's last paragraph in post 5, unfortunately the politico-military organisation isn't designed to learn, which is why we're consistently such an easy target for the experienced industrials. At the top we have a transitory political leadership who would rather win votes today at the cost of equipment and expenditure tomorrow, while from the bottom upwards we've nurtured a culture of transient 2-year appointees, who lack the experience but more worryingly the willingness to say "I don't know".

I would describe our current organisation as an 'Axis of Easy' - fcuk me, that's inspired!

I'll harp back a 'lot' of years.

If I buy something new, I pay the seller the money to buy it. Endex

I'll come forward a 'few' years.

If I buy something new, I give the seller the money to make it and then pay the seller the money again, to buy what I paid for in the first place. Oh, and if it's late in delivery, I pay the seller more money to sell it to me.

????

OK, I know it's more complicated than that scenario. Or is it? Or should it be?

Added

My grand-daughter (5 years old) has just told me that I should be in bed early "cos Santa's coming".

She believes in Santa (bless), I wonder if MoD have the same beliefs?

A Happy and peaceful Christmas to you all.

we pay a starting salary of 35K PA to a C1 CS -
Jim, the C1 payscale starts at £31.6k; I assume you're including recruit & retention allowance, which reinforces Eval8ters last post.

Taxy, it is much more complicated than that - but not by much

Merry Christmas all

Yup - sorry, was thinking about it and used figures based on the 2010 pay figure (am a C2 looking for C1 in near future). RRA / Inner London Weighting still makes it 35k in Central London going up to 39,500ish in 2010 - not a huge amount when you look at what you are asking these people to do.

Not much London Weighting in Shabby Wood (nor Wyton, for that matter).

exscribbler,

40 years ago today I was on 84 Sqn which most definitely was NOT equipped with the Westland Whirlwind nor was it based in Akrotiri. I spent that day flying in Andover C Mk 1 XS 643 between RAF Sharjah and a desert strip called Al Khatt.

There was also an Andover Sqn in Singapore (52 Sqn).

35K a year doesn't buy you much in AW? You are joking, which way are house prices going? Let me give you a clue downwards....and at a fair lick.South Glos is being hammered by crashing house prices
Back to CS i am well aware of a C2 in the rotary cluster who took redundency under the head count reduction iniative and walked with over 100K his last day in post as a CS was March of this year.
He has since been reemployed as a contractor doing his own job on £350 a day as no one with the suitable quals was avaialble within the redeployment pool/ other IPT's.
Icing on the cake is that the post was advertised externally, he applied for it and has been accepted back into the CS in the grade he left in March and does not have to repay any of the 100K........what a way to waste money

First it was called 'smart procurement' then it was redubbed as 'smart acquisition'. So what do they call it now?
