C17 Cosford 17/12/08
Well i took the bike out to Cosfrd Via Shawbury & froze my nuts off.
Anyhow i thought i would try for an approach shot, so went into a feild east of cosford in Albrighton, then realised that i made a mistake as they decided to do a downwind landing.....................................
Not very good but here are a few that i got;
Some locals on approach.
Then i realised that my 270 mile round trip was spoilt!!
Cheers Trev

Why didn't the USAF C-17A go straight into Cosford with the MH-53 instead of landing at Brize Norton, unloading it and having an RAF example loading it back up and doing the short hop to Cosford?
I'm sure the USAF chaps have alot of short field experience with a big load?

Because the Jet was on paper tight on performance (the Mission Computer is always a little pessimistic) and the runway is only 3800ft long, so for the USAF to do it would have required really careful planning (it arrived direct from Iraq) and an immediate refuel on departure...that and the fact it arrived at BZZ totally unannounced!
