exscribbler - Best the RN not buy too many of those badges as the big bad RAF mafia are out to get the FAA.
On second thoughts, buy loads and give them to the crews on RIBs. It might just baffle the Iranians long enough to allow the crews to get their iPods keistered.

Tangential to the topic:
Does anyone know of any 892Sqn F-4K air to air kills?
.
.
.
I just read yesterday that an 892 Omega off Ark Royal shot a Sidewinder in around 1975 (during the Sailor series but not captured on camera) off Virginia somewhere at an air to air range and knocked one engine off a US (Navy?) C-130!!!
Luckily the Sidewinder did not have a warhead...
Apparently the fault of the Herc's crew who transgressed into the firing range unannounced!
That goes one better than shooting one's own aircraft down (F-4-Jag incident!)
Source: Cdr Michael Doust's 'Phantom Leader' book (he's also the 'Little F' Lt Cdr (Flying) next to Cdr(Air) Bob Northard giving the instruction to 'Turn downwind now' to the F-4s passing by the ship.

Now then, Stacker, behave yourself.
I've a similar sticker in the back window of my car and the Guardians of the Gate at Waddington (I'm not sure if they were stackers or RAFP but that's of no real matter as both trades are very alike in outlook) all called me "Sir"...

ARXW - that 892 incident occurred in february 1972 on the Atlantic Fleet Weapons Range off Puerto Rico. An 892 F-4 launched from Ark Royal hit a US Navy ERA-3B Skywarrior from VAQ-33 with an inert Sparrow. The inert missile - meant for a Firebee drone - hit the starboard engine. After losing a lot of height very quickly the damaged jet landed at back at Roosevelt Roads. And, after the RN crew had been absolved of any blame for what had happened, the boss of the US Navy squadron (who'd been flying the Skywarrior) wrote a very nice letter to his 892 counterpart, looking forward to the next time their paths crossed ...
Suspicion breeds confidence
Em,
I sure you can find many more on youtube. That was when we had a navy. I presume the Army Captain was the range officer and called a few Delta Hotels. I noticed Ark all all her radars going for the photoshoot, even though her 965s couldn't operate at the same time. Fun times.
A little known factoid was that Ark and most of the RN fleet the time had to get a dispensation from the US DoD to enter any US port. Why? because they breached Coast Guard regulations about pumping raw sewage into harbours. No holding tanks and everything went out. We had to pay every time of course.

Navaleye,
Thank you for the sewage information which, though interesting, does not have quite the same exciting attraction as the deck action on the youtube videos. There is a lot of footage on you tube but note that the very first clip at the begining of this thread links to a web site Avweb.
I hope you agree that these clips are good to watch and if you or any other readers of this thread are able to contribute more then that would be fantastic.
Regards
EM
