New RAF radar will help battlefield commanders

http://www.mod.uk/DefenceInternet/DefenceNews/EquipmentAndLogistics/NewRafRadarWillHelpBattlefieldCommanders.htm

The fully operational ASTOR system will comprise five modified Bombardier Global Express business jets (dubbed Sentinel R1) crewed by two aircrew and at least three radar operators, and eight ground stations.

I'm sure the 'at least three radar operators' will be really chuffed to be differentiated from the two aircrew on the crew! And this from the official MoD website

It's sad when the sun report is more informative

RAF superplane can see Taliban through louds | The Sun |News|Campaigns|Our Boys

And as for NEC, I was of the impression that project got cancelled about 12-18 months ago.

A spokesman from the Ministry of (silly) Decisions - it was spelt like that on the side of the van - said that the world's most advanced surveillance aircraft could even 'pinpoint a cat's purr at 400 yards'.

Love the comments on the Sun website.

Council house experts insist the Taliban's new SA-21 systems will easily shoot down a Sentinel (presumably a camel-mounted variant as yet unseen) and the lack of LGBs is a critical design oversight.

It is apparently also coming soon to a council near you!

To be fair, the article states that the plane flies out of range of SAM's at 40,000 feet. I can think of at least one person who would have said 'It aint so'
