I told you it wouldn't take long for the proof to arrive! Good one TEEJ. So in any case the Argentinian pilots were very aware of the Lima threat after all...hence the the throttling back of the two Mirages prior to the merge with the 801NAS SHARs on 1 May.

That's a fairly blatant advert when a AIM-9B would have been up to the job. Shame we didn't get to splash a couple of those 707s. Cardiff did actually engage one t a land Coventry had a certain kill until her flash doors failed safe again.

Hale would probably have been less trouble had he encountered a Mirage III since its radar had no look-down capability over land and probably would not have been able to get a lock on the shars below it.

Nice catch on youtube that I only recently stumbled upon from a SHAR pilot involved in a couple of hectic air combat actions Edmund Spencer

Sorry for the late answer!

I am just now writing about the 1 May 82 combat and in contact with Brigadier Perona.

García Cuerva and Perona were not aware of the Lima missiles when merged with Thomas and Barton on 1 May 82.

They never considered that a missile could be launched at them from the front, and so Perona attempted a frontal cross with Thomas at the start of the air battle, eventually failing to aim guns. It must be said that Thomas attempted a frontal launch of a Lima at that crossing, but failed to get a tone.

Best!
