Help for Heroes bow tie and mess kit

Any feelings on whether we should be wearing the Help for Heroes bow tie and cummerbund instead of unit/ Sqn sets at functions?

Only in black tie, why not just donate the cost to them?

Cummerbund is very smart and ideal for 'black tie' functions which demand strict adherence to their neo-apartheid 'Black Only' rules.....

When I was CMC I certainly allowed Sqn cummerbunds but drew the line at bow-ties regulation black only much to the cost (bottle of port fine) for some folks. I think it depends on the CMC's interpretation of the rules!!!!

Why the need to wear a "Help For Heroes" cummerbund etc with Mess Kit? One would expect that little publicity is needed for the charioty within the Mess unless the wearer wishes to make a self indulgent statement of course. I'd keep it for black tie with DJ functions - or, as has already been stated, donate the cost directly to the charity.
