Apache over London

While walking through Whitehall last Wednesday I thought I heard the unmistakable thud of a Chinook, looked up and there she was! Then the next morning I stepped out of my hotel only to be greeted by an Apache Longbow flying at about 1000ft along the Thames past the HP before doing a slow circuit around Vauxhall Bridge and disappearing off to the West. As a native of Belfast I'm used to seeing the odd military chopper in the sky but I wasn't aware of much of that business of the capital. Does anyone know why they would've been there? I was thinking arms fair as I don't think the Apache would be as effective against uk terrorist threats as it is against the Taleban!

Apache pilots have to be just as familiar as any other pilot with flying in complex airspace; London airspace affords that aspect of their training. The Thames is a recognised helicopter route within that airspace and sometimes it is just the quickest way from A to B.

Just training, thats as frought as it gets,
