I already have my bus pass but a tube one will be more than welcome. Shame Mrs PN will have to go by bus although she may be an eligible dependent:

The Daily Mail source is here:

Greater London Authority - Press Release

Note what Ross Kemp says.

While I think I will be eligible, what about those WW2 veterans who do not get a war pension but are now very frail even if still active? They can use the buses and very few will use the tube so it could be extended to older vets at huge PR benefit and very little cost.

PS,

Shame the Veterans badge uses a clip pin rather than the ubiquitos clutch pin that has been in use for over 40 years. Just had to take mine to a jewellers to be repaired and modified.

I know it's not really on thread but I was at Headingley last week for the Yorkshire - Lancashire T20 and they were letting in FOC service personnel in uniform - with ID, of course. It's not much but it's a start!

One day we'll treat our service people and veterans properly. The Broons have yet to convince me (or anyone else for that matter) why we can't do it NOW.

That's a superb gesture that the UK government should follow...

Suez medal next, please, before the old boys die out.

If I read it correctly though, you can only apply for th ebadge if you stopped serving before 1994 - is that correct? what about the people who were proud to serve but whose service ended after that date?

Yep,

read that thanks -

It says under criteria (in total)

All those who have served in HM Armed Forces.
but on the application forms it states

Men and women who served in HM Armed Forces up to and inlcuding 31 December 1994...
Which to me is saying that people who may have joined well before this date but left after 2004 are not eligible... a bit off really as those people are probably all prod of their service and of the work that the members of the Armed Forces continue to do.

Wearing this pin not only lets people know you once served, but far more importantly it shows your pride in current members....

It says on the veterans website that those who left after 2004 should
receive it automatically on leaving the Services.

I was issued one (well thrown one by a bored clothing stores wallah) last year when I de-kitted.

Well done Boris (and all the train operating companies) for introducing free travel for war pension recipients. Could you have ever seen Red Ken, friend of the IRA, extremist Islamic elements and very anti-military ever introducing something like this?

Well done Mr. Mayor, Boris.

Let's get some real pride back into our society and especially for those who make sacrifices for us. It'll do us all good, not just the direct recipients.

anotherthing,

What it actually means is that your service should have been before the given date. Once you bcome a veteran then you may either apply, if for instance you were national service, or will be issued one when you retire.

I notice more and more people wearing their badges. Eventually you will have everyone of a certain age wearing their badge (if entitled) with a few not. Then there will be the Walts as badges become available on eBay which they will, especially if they start to attract recognition.

And who said this Government never did anything for the servicemen?

PS, the pin is cr^p.

Nice one Boris, I have my vets badge but I'm in Germany and can't make it. But then again, get a few more like Boris and I might want to return to my birth place,

At £41 and climbing means we need to watch our backs when wearing our pins.

I have no idea where my box or papers are. Maybe just as well. I hope who ever sold it on got VFM.
