UKSAR Privatisation vs Mil Aircrews

Having used the search function to the best of my ability, I'm unable to find the thread that my grey ageing brain tells me is out there somewhere!

UKSAR goes private in a few years time, this I'm familiar with, but does anyone have the latest gen on whether we're retaining some mil aircrews as part of the organisation? Or is the whole chabang going civvy?

2 threads in one day... crazy, must cut back on the diet cokes...

Yes it has been discussed to death before, and I'm sure the answers as at the time are buried here somewhere.

However, it is a £billions contract, the negotiations are getting ever more competitive, and anyone who knows anything will be keeping very quiet.

The very latest gen is;

1. The contract has been awarded to the best bidder - not the cheapest.
2. The new aircraft and simulators are now in production with an absolute financial guarantee that they will be delivered on time and fully functional.
3. The aircrew will be an equal split of highly motivated and trained mil & civ crews.
4. The aircrew are as we speak under going extensive harmonisation training so that the transition is seamless. By the time the project goes live all crews regardless of colour of flying suit will be overland/oversea/day/night/all weather capable and there will be sufficient continuation training in the contract to sustain.
5. Sufficient extra manpower and aircraft will be part of the deal so that the UK can offer a deployable quick reaction SAR unit to respond to international disaster relief when required.
6. The admin & engineer support will be second to none demonstrating once again the professionalism of British industry.
7. The present basing structure - proved to be effective will remain to protect local economies and provide comprehensive cover to the UK SAR region

How is the privatised engineering is going so far?

JTIDS - as I suspect you well know, the success of the engineering privatisation has been variable. Despite all the high ranking experts and company bluster, the fact remains that if you want quality people to work in crappy locations and do a good job you have to pay them well and give them good leadership and support. If you don't - well...........

It's strange that a desirable location, happy and well motivated workers and a knowledgeable and credible leadership make for the gold standard amongst the flights.

so the mil moved sideways and with good leadership have proved to be gold standard. The future looks good for SARH with a lot of mil looking to move sideways and each bidder looking to give them good leadership - gold standard?

66 = 16 crews

present 8 mil bases with 4 crews/ base = 32 crews

therefore the mil input is 50% of present frontline strength.

Don't forget the Falklands has to be provided for out of those 66, plus a couple of career posts (Sqn Boss, 2ic) plus standards, then factor in the constant throughput to SH that is supposed to be the remit of the SAR Force and you have more like a third of the present Mil SARF to be employed front - line. The MoD is supposed to pay 70% of the bill for SARH but only have 30% or so of the front line as Mil - maybe that is why it might get shelved.

I don't think that there will actually be that many that do want to step sideways especially since some who jumped early expecting preferential treatment regarding postings have discovered that seniority in the company is what dictates where you get to go. Anyone leaving the mil would generally want to stay where they are but if it is a nice location they will probably be seen off by those who have been in the company for a while.

Sorry but i understood this to be a "UK SAR Privatisation" where does the above fit into this. What Sqn will be available to be the Boss or 2ic. My uderstanding is that the winning company will allot the places I.A.W the winning bid. Is FKI in the pot or not??

So the gov't may wish to remove the best PR source from the RAF, and place it in civil hands.
However...Gold standard with the reliance on sideways movement from serving/ex personnell? Will it happen or will they move elsewhere?
Where would you bet on the money for the best renumeration?
