Aye, all credit to Ricko for getting some photos, it's just the colour scheme that I don't care for. Air-to-air photographs are (contrary to popular belief) tricky at the best of times, but this combo is a particular problem, when you're after a high shutter speed to freeze the movement, but a slow shutter speed to blur the prop. There's no ideal solution other than maybe getting both aircraft in really close so that a wide angle lens can be used, but getting a Spit and a Hawk up close, stabilised... hmm, maybe not!
Thing is, I just don't think much to any of these "air show" paint schemes. I've never quite seen the point of dressing-up military aircraft like circus clowns.

Not picky at all. I congratulated Richard on two very nice shots.
Instead of blowing hot air up his arse, I took the time to actually look at the third shot: while the right wing of the Spit is in focus, the rest of the Spit is very soft. As for the Hawk, it is completely blurred.
He had the right idea, but it didn't come off for him as planned. **** happens.

The idea behind this colour scheme is due to the fact that 19 squadron were the first squadron to get Spitfires in August 1938 at Duxford for the Battle of Britain.
This year is the 70th aniversay of that event and it was an opportunity to celebrate it with the piant job, which is close to the original as we could get it.
There will be a lot of money raised for charity from this and I for one am proud to be a part of it all and have to say the paint scheme looks stunning.
We had one chance at the photo shoot, it was very close to being scrapped again on friday due to the weather and as I had not had the chance to practise this beforehand with the BBMF, I feel we did a good job.

The two Hawk guys looking at the Spit.................................
Unless you flew St Andrew's Cross with a scottish-based squadron in the late 80s, SOP is for guy up front to actually look at the a/c they are formating on. Guy in back can then take a nice photo...

Looks good to me, I have not seen it yet, and wished I had, especially after watching 7 black painted Hawks at Waddington today......

Great photos, and I like the colour scheme - but I like 'Misdemeanour', the gloriously coloured Hunter, so there's no accounting for my taste!

I hear that a BBMF Spitfire will be displayed in 92(F) Sqn. markings this season. It will look a whole lot better than that Hawk!
