IED blast in Afghanistan kills Lt. son of Dutch most senior commander...
Less than 24 hrs after taking command of all Dutch armed forces General Peter van Uhm got a phone call at 05.00 hrs telling him his own son, a lieutenant in the army, had died in an IED-attack in Afghanistan a few hours before...

"The son of the new Dutch armed forces commander has been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan.
The blast, early on Friday in Uruzgan province, also killed another Dutch soldier and wounded two more.
Lt Dennis van Uhm, 23, was the son of Gen Peter van Uhm, who took up overall command of Dutch forces on Thursday.
A total of 16 Dutch troops have now died in Afghanistan. Friday's attack is not thought to have specifically targeted the new military commander's son."

And to think that during the transfer of command yesterday a minute's silence was observed for the 14 Dutch soldiers who had already died by then...

Very sad news indeed.
Mr. Tapper, It is because of men like you, who have shown us the true value to be found and defended in life that we sons joined up too.
I certainly did. My parents gave me a wonderful childhood and it was because of that that when I was a young teenager trying to decide what to do with my life, the only thing which made any sense was to join HMF and serve for the things I had had instilled in me.
It's easy being a child, the difficult part is living up to the standards and qualities proven to us over 20 plus years by our parents.
