French Jaguars
Been a busy day for the French Air Force over my house in Normandy.
The usual mix of planes but a pair at some distance I couldn't recognise, when they banked away from me they looked like Jaguars.
Do the French still have Jaguars?
Also seen in the past a pair of very colourful Tornadoes, who paints the tails bright red!

The following Squadrons had Jaguars but have all been withdrawn:
1/7 'Provence', 2/7 'Argonne', 3/7 'Languedoc', 4/7 'Limousin', 1/11 'Roussillon', 2/11 'Vosges', 3/11 'Corse', 4/11 'Jura' and 3/3 'Ardennes'.
You sure you saw Jags? From a distance (looking along or across the fuselage), the Alpha Jet bears a canny resemblance ...

The last French Jaguar was publically withdrawn from service at Cazaux air show in June 2005.
There have been no French Jags flying since then.
As an earlier poster stated,the Alpha Jet is very similar to a Jaguar from a distance.
French Alpha Jets are based at Tours,not far from Normandy,and Cazaux south west of Bordeaux.

From where I was sitting, en-route Rheims - Dieppe, I'd say Beags has it. My eyesight isn't what it was but they were having a ball. Lots of low level stuff.

It was a cheap shot, but I couldn't resist it!
However, to be fair, three Free French Squadrons were assigned to No 84 Gp (2ATAF) for D-Day: 329; 340; and 341 Sqns flying Spitfire XIs out of Merston (145 Wing). There was also 346(Fr) Sqn flying Halifax III/IV for No 4 Gp out of Elvington which may have been assigned to Overlord.
Perhaps the modern FAF were on their new national exercise which gives their pilots experience in the realism of warfighting and air combat. Its called "White Flag".

We only get C160s down here. No so much low-level, more like they are conducting GPWS tests

That was definately them. Thank you.
Made a change from the usual Alpha Jets and F2000.
Also see Rafales from time to time, actually have done for a number of years now. Will the RAF have an equivalent soon then?
