Top tip, get your HR staff to check the JPA system for correct leave inputs at head office.Having just returned from the Sandy place i have taken some individual leave and POL. To my horror( ok slightly OTT) for 11 days leave, JPA took 21 off my balance. Looking into it the HR staff found another mistake on a previous pass meaning i was owed 13 days in total.
This has happened to at least 2 other chaps on the Sqn.
This could be a way of getting the leave balance correct as last year so many people were unable to take all of the entitlement. Just kidding, but thought you should be aware of any errors that disadvantage your leave fellas.

Will O Groups turn into 'brain storming sessions' and going to war become 'overseas sales trips'??
BTW, we had a couple of chaps have their 'holidays' fadged by JPA too.

Rumour here is that JPA cannot handle Easter Leave happening twice in the same year (due to Easter being so early this year), so UPO staff are manually checking and ammending as necessary to ensure correct balances carried forward.

Bigger rumour that JPA doesn't understand shift work. Apparently we all do a monday-friday 5 day week. So, if you're one of those police/ATC/fighter control/Steward/chef/medic/SAR (oh bu&&er, any trade in the military except admin) types, your Unit HR Professional has to frig the figures every month. Oh, and don't even ask about how they handle messing charges etc under such circumstances.

the reason your leave has been screwed up m8 is the admin staff at your OOA location did not update your arrivals date on JPA. We had the same issues in another sandy place and over 70 guys got done over by leave errors. they did fix it it a few months later but Im convinced like many others that the true balances were never restored. A few lucky ones got more days that they had , so like good old chaps they took the extra leave and did nothing and quite rightly so

4fitter, we were having this argument at work the other day (as some of us had nearly 30 days left to take) and we were told the first 15 get transferred, and you need to get the boss to sign for any over that.
But beware, because if you do, it goes to the chief clerk, who analyses everyday you've been off work, be it stand down etc. and you may end up losing more days, rather than carry more over!

Sorry for the thread creep, but
I was told the same thing about 6 years ago whilst on a Home Office course, the replacement to be used was "Thought Shower".
Oh how we laughed.
Being fair, the instructor thought it was a load of @rse as well, but he had his pension to think of.

Should have made myself clear.
Rules about over allowance have not changed, however, we have to certify first 15 days also or lose them.
Allegedly an in year prob but seems that we lose until we justify!!

RP, I think you are correct. Only thing is with 6 months or so OOA and courses and signing on bounty.

CS however complain they are paid 37.5X52 but only recompensed at 37.5x52/365.

Not a widely known reg, but there is a bit of a loophole that you can use regarding excess leave if you have been OOA and have accumulated post op leave.
Although you are encouraged to take it as soon as possible, your post op leave is valid for 12 months and isn't included in the 15 days carry-over calculations. So if you have spent a long time OOA and have extra post op leave and it looks like you won't get it all in, take you annual leave when you get back from OOA to get it down to 15 days and carry over your post op leave.
It's breaking the spirit of the regs, but it is within the letter of the law .... sounds like just the sort of technicality / loop hole the MOD use to wriggle out of their responsibilities.

I am not the quickest of folk but I did find out today that if you go on det they stop your Home to Duty and more often than not "forget" to start it up again so best take a look at you're pay chit's in case that is missing as well.............nice wad on it's way
