Augusta Westland and Boeing Australia

Augusta Westland and Boeing Australia have signed an MOU offering the A109 for Air9000. Interesting to see now what other platforms the other players will line up behind

AgustaWestland and Boeing Australia sign MOU for joint rotorcraft work

AgustaWestland and Boeing Australia Limited announced today the sign of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the 2008 Singapore Airshow that will see them work collaboratively to provide innovative rotary wing solutions to the Australian Defence Force (ADF). Under the MOU, Boeing Australia and AgustaWestland will offer an integrated helicopter aircrew training system for the ADF for Air 9000 Phase 7.

This collaboration builds on The Boeing Company’s and AgustaWestland’s track record of partnering for success across a range of programs such as CH-47 Chinook in Italy and the Apache program in the United Kingdom. Boeing Australia Limited’s President, David Withers was today joined by AgustaWestland’s Senior Vice President International Business Unit, Giacomo Saponaro at the signing ceremony.

Withers said this strong alliance will offer the ADF a proven, off-the-shelf integrated training system solution, significantly enhancing its ability to train world-class helicopter pilots and aircrew. “Boeing Australia has proven its performance in in-country training delivery and rotary wing support and has tremendous experience in providing project management, engineering, and other support services to the ADF,” he said. “Together with AgustaWestland’s expertise in the design and manufacture of rotorcraft, we offer a highly successful, low-risk solution for Air 9000 Phase 7.”

“AgustaWestland is committed to offering Australian Defence Force the best integrated training solution to meet its fleet rationalisation objectives over time under the Air 9000 programme. As the most advanced military light twin helicopter for both basic and advanced training purposes, the high performance fully equipped shippable AW109 LUH covers a large number of land-based as well as sea-based operational applications, so favouring an effective operational conversion training for air crew transitioning to other operational helicopter systems.” Mr. Saponaro said.

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is one of the largest helicopter companies in the world. The company offers an unrivalled range of helicopters, training and support solutions to satisfy the requirements of civil and military customers. AgustaWestland has its primary operations in Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

Boeing Australia Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary that reports to Boeing International Support Systems, is a high-technology aerospace company specialising in installation and support of systems for defence and commercial customers. A unit of The Boeing Company, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is one of the world's largest space and defense businesses specialising in innovative and capabilities-driven customer solutions. Headquartered in St. Louis, Boeing Integrated Defense Systems is a $32.4 billion business with 72,000 employees worldwide.
