Noervenich Tornado Drivers?

Hiya Guys,

I'm staying near Noervenich Air Base in Germany for a few weeks...quite enjoying having Tornadoes passing on a regular basis. Am just wondering if anybody can put me in touch with a Tornado driver based out this way (maybe some browse these forums?) as I'd like to see if it's at all possible to go have a look...or any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Also, do the Luftwaffe still operate Phantoms? If so, wereabouts are they based?

Cheers in advance guys

LP

Perhaps, but as I don't speak German and am only here for a few weeks I don't think that's a viable option

Jagdgeschwader 71 "Richthofen" fly the F-4F from Wittmund.

Jagdgeschwader 74 "Mölders" is in the process of transitioning from the F4F to the Eurofighter at Neuberg a.d. Donau; this is planned to be complete by the end of this year.

JG74 isn't called 'Mölders' any more...

Mölders' association with the Condor Legion and his 'failure to distance himself sufficiently from National Socialism' led to the decision to remove the honorific from JG74.

This was, IIRC, associated with the anniversary of the bombing of Guernica, and a desire to ensure that the Condor Legion wasn't honoured in any way. The removal occurred despite the fact that there was no evidence to suggest Mölders participated in the attack and in spite of efforts by a fairly wide group of politicians, veterans and historians to overturn the decision, a report from the Militärgeschichtliches Forschungsamt suggested that the lack of demonstrable diassociation from the Nazis meant the decision stayed in place.

(The fact that Mölders was devoutly religious, which wasn't quite in keeping with being a raving Nazi, and insisted upon humane treatment of PoWs wasn't enough)

have a look!

At what, if you can see them what more do you want?

F4's Yes, and Luftwaffe is a term is rarely used now, be careful. They are much if not more an air force than some out here, but there again!

As for Jbg31, Spent many weeks there during XS courses, Oktoberfests etc. Working alongside very professional bunch of guys.

Regards

More PC bollukkz! We were RAF then and now, why not Luftwaffe then and now? I've had the very good fortune to work with some of them and I don't think many would have problems with the name.
