Chinook
Hi,
My wife absolutely loves CH-47 Chinooks.
When she was a co-ordinator for the Coastguards, she turned down an offer for a ride in the Sea King, “If it’s not a Chinook I’m not interested”.
If I ever want to go to an air show all I have to say is that there’s a Chinook going to be there and she jumps in the car ready to go. She was bitterly disappointed this year as the Chinook didn’t show up on Sunday and Shoreham.
Anyway I would to know if there is any possibility in a “Jim-‘ll-fix-it” type of way I can organise a ride in one for her – even if it’s just taxiing at 3feet!.
Does anyone know of any way I can make this happen? I don’t mined travelling any ware, any time. I can put some of my hard earned in the charity box or whatever’s required.
Not sure if this is the best place to ask, but “if you don’t ask…….”

If you post a picture of her here, I should be able to tell you what her chances are!
To be serious, unless she is in someway associated with the forces, reserves, cadets or Blue Peter, her chances are close to zero. Even serving aircrew generally cannot take their friends and family flying. There's no harm in writing a letter to the PRO at Odiham but you might need to think of a better reason than just 'liking chinooks'. Having looked at your website, the charity angle might be worth a stab but don't get your hopes up.

How about a word with JHSU or MAOTs.
If you can get your missus under a Wokka, hooking (
), she'll appreciate the ride even more ( again!). Not an experience she'll ever forget! And, I'd think it a lot easier to get a cabbie if you've got JHSU or MAOTs asking for you.
I think your hardest task will be to avoid the "anyone who puts £500 in the RAFBF/SSAFA/whatever pot can have a go in a Wokka at £20k/hr".
It just might be that JHSU or MAOTs can sort this for you, if you promise to contribute to their kids Christmas bash/chosen charity.
Another thought - if money is no object, the US Army has rather a lot of Wokkas too.

I might try JHSU etc....
Unfortunately there's not a direct associated with the forces, father served in Germany, and grandfather was the Secretary for the British legion, but not directly with her.
She helped to raise £30K for charity last year (see link below), So I suppose I could try something along those lines.
Pity British Airways sold their one a few years back!

I still remember with fondness my trip up in a Wokka at Odiham as a 9 yr old.
My father who was a Chinook techie (for many years) sent me into the aircraft with two rules that I had to follow strictly to the letter.
1: Do not leave your seat under any circumstances
2: Make sure you do whatever the loadmaster tells you too.
What followed was a confusing situation for a 9 yr old who had a level of obediance to his father often not seen these days. Within five minutes the loadie had ordered me out of my seat and told me to move to the back of the aircraft. He then hooked me in and had me sitting on the rear ramp with my legs dangling over.
He then proceeded to point out some of the houses of the local celebs including Major Ron Ferguson and the Redgrave's gaffe just off by the Basingstoke Canal at Withy Pools.
Unforgettable experience and I suspect one of the reasons why I never made it into the Air Force as a pilot.
