Always a fascinating/depressing/evocative read.

If you were at Church Fenton though, look away now.

The treasury must be relieved to see that only minor cosmetic work is needed to get it to the required standard. After all, they wouldn't want to spend too much money on the armed forces when the money is far better spent taking their wifes around the world on first class junkets.

The Mess at Syerston (which contains many of my brain cells .... and some memories ....), is also now pretty derelict - but served some time as an Islamic College!!!!

I'm completely out of the loop with regards to the future of Fenton but I just stumbled across this FoI request which seems to suggest that CF will be sold off sometime soon.

Does anyone have any further information on this and the future of YUAS?

The time to worry is towards the end of a refurb/rebuild project costing several millions.

A sure sign of impending closure.

I am wondering about RAF Henlow - the tennis courts are just being re-surfaced, and the Offrs' Mess is having the excess ivy cleaned off its front; does that mean the place is about to be closed?

Sir Toppham,
Henlow Mess didnt have an excess of ivy, it was just sufficient to stop the windows falling out.

Not to mention some road holes being filled in and the tower (presumably) for the wireless broadband[1] being put in. However, I don't think it's enough spending/work to herald a closure; Wyton, on the other hand...

[1] Which still doesn't appear to work even with the shiny new antenna.
