Check your 'termination data' on JPA. Many colleages of mine have had their terms of service on JPA changed to the new AFPS05 system without their permission. Unless you fancy 2 extra years and a crappier pension at 40, I suggest you check on JPA.
I guess many of you may get a shock.

go into JPA self service, click on View termination data. This should give a clue as to any error.
I think only your admin staff will be able to access the bit which tells them what pension you're on. Mine said 'This officer has elected to transfer to AFPS 05 etc etc'
Yet I have a peice of paper clearly stating that I have elected to remain on AFPS 75!!!!

More reason that JPA deserves the award of best computer thingy in the UK (or whatever it is nominated for zzzzzzzz).

I would check - but have still yet to be able to log-on to the damned thing. It's only been 18 months so I mustn't grumble, but I would like to put some of my claims in now, or maybe take some leave.
Although somebody did recently tell me that I have already been discharged. But I'm still getting paid....

I asked in May what my pension and gratuity would be and despite numerous follow ups I still have no gen on the exact figures. I have a ball park set of numbers from the MoD penson calculator but I served my last day of 40 years a couple of weeks ago (golf handicap down by 3 so far) and I have not yet received any payment or indication of what the payment will be. I also haven't got my P45 (keep playing golf) so if I was looking for work it would be a problem.
I am, perhaps naively, confident that it will be OK in the end but I'm now barred from accessing JPA (I popped into "work" and tried during the week) and whilst the Glaswegian voice on the phone is consistently polite and reassuring there's no warm feeling being generated.
Not to worry. I now qualify as a "senior" golfer and I'm playing my first match tomorrow so life is bearable and the bunkers are smaller, and less hostile, this side of thje line.

Ref: Glasgow and Pensions: Mr LDaS asked for details on his pension from Glasgow back in early Feb 07 - it took until end of Sept to get the details - despite 10+ phone calls and several letters - and despite it specifically stating in the SPVA booklet that "AFPAA must provide the information not later than three months after the request".
Sure, every phone call was answered, but absolutely nothing resulted despite promises to "call back", "refer it to Supervisor", "mark it for urgent attention" etc.
Finally the info did come through, but in the meantime Mr LDaS has lost even more hair and I need a holiday as a result of the stress of it all (the info was required in April!).
There is a dispute procedure - see Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure on Defence Intranet - which can be used to complain about inaccurate information, poor service, maladministration etc. - but I suspect that by the time anyone finally gets a result out of Glasgow they are so darned exhausted by the process and relieved to finally get what they needed that they just don't bother complaining.
But, since the SPVA was formed by the merger of the VA and the AFPAA, and the day to day running contracted out to EDS (Electronic Data Systems - a private contractor) the response and service received has seriously gone downhill.
If nobody does bother complaining EDS will retain the contract since it will appear that nothing is wrong. I would urge all that have problems getting info out of Glasgow on pensions, payments, calculations etc. to complain since it's the only way we stand any chance of this situation being addressed.

I asked for a pension prediction looking ahead to my next option, and it took a several reminders and 4 months to deliver something I could have produced myself from the MOD online Pension Calculator.
I followed up the letter with another call as I wanted to understand what effect retiring at a date one year later than my option date, only to be told that I was only allowed one forecast per year and a second would cost 150 quid! To say I was surprised would not nearly cover it....
