C-130 Hercules down in KY

Air Force Public Affairs has confirmed that a military C-130 Hercules plane has crashed in Knox County, KY.

Details sketchy at the moment.

Apparently it went down on the highway.

Beware of first reports!
A sergeant with the National Guard spoke with 6 News by phone Tuesday evening. She said the Guard is not missing any of its Lockheed C-130 Hercules planes and all the soldiers are accounted for.

Officials say they believe the plane some people thought may have crashed actually landed safely.

Emergency crews in Knox County, Kentucky have called off their search for the plane.

From the Courier-Journal, Kentucky:-

"As a retired C-130 crew member of the KYANG, I was very relieved to see Col. Ken Dale on tv and announcie that all our planes and crews were accounted for and safe.
The members of the KYANG are some of the best Airmen in the country and that includes active duty Airmen. The C-130 is a very safe aircraft and the maintence personel of the KYANG keep their planes in top notch shape."

Apparently it was on an exercise and the Police, Fire and Rescue services found no crash site after searching for hours.

Hmmmm,

Several television reports had witnesses describing a large, green, four-engine plane flying low over Corbin on Tuesday afternoon. Paul Wilson told WKYT-TV in Lexington he saw the plane struggling to stay in the air and that it appeared to have smoke coming from one of the engines.

Col. Phil Miller with the Kentucky National Guard said they were checking into the incident.

Capt. Dale Greer, public affairs officer with 123rd Airlift Wing of the Kentucky Air National Guard said it was not a plane from the wing.

“It’s not one of our aircraft,” Greer said. He had no other information

FAA: no evidence of plane crash in southeast Ky.

Maybe this thread should be deleted all together. Seems to be a bs after all.

Military and federal officials say reports of a possible plane crash in southeastern Kentucky turned out to be false. The incorrect reports sent dozens of rescue workers scrambling this afternoon.

The Air Force and Federal Aviation Administration say all aircraft were present and accounted for despite numerous reports of a low-flying plane in Knox County, near the Tennessee border.

Rescue workers with the Knox County sheriff's department were called off around seven pm eastern time. That was about three hours after reports of a plane crashing near Kentucky Highway 459.

Knox County sheriff's dispatch supervisor Denise Crawford said the department had received several reports of a plane down and smoke in a wooded area. Fire and law enforcement officers headed to the scene but didn't find anything.

The media never seems to learn that eyewitness accounts are 99% wrong. A smoking C-130? They all have smoky exhaust. Low altitude? They fly low-level routes. In an effort to get the story out first, this station has made themselves look like idiots.

Aloha.
