Seeking "Combat Pilot"

Hello,

I'm trying to get hold of the more recent of the two BBC documentaries, which followed people being taught to fly Hawks at Valley (if my fuzzy memory serves), so I can show it to some actors. I did recently meet someone who'd been involved in making it, but I didn't know about it at the time so I can't chase it up that way.

Because the BBC are dimwitted, they haven't brought it out on DVD - or I'd just go and buy it. Can anyone help out?

Gratefully,

Phil

This is what you are looking for - Combat Pilot.

If the link doesn't work -

http://open.bbc.co.uk/catalogue/infa...station_valley

The program numbers are all there and if you contact the bbc they should be able to send you copies for a small fee.

Last time I checked this it was going to cost me about £600 "archive retrieval fees".

Call me cheap if you like...

Thanks though.

Oh, and, edit: "Please note that we are not able to provide copies of programmes for you."

But they are. It just costs an arm and a leg.

They are hoping to put archived programs on-line in the near future though. And this promises to be free:

Phil R - look at the broadcast history - my bet is that lots of people have it on a private recording - so ask around the other UK aviation fora, such as http://www.airshows.co.uk/board/ikonboard.pl

Another possibility is to search one of the file share networks, I'll check the one I use later when I get home. It is quite amazing just what programs people have recorded and stored on their PC.
SOme are not quite so amazing I would add

You could try the media comms officer at Valley. He was the link between the tv crew and the station when it was filmed. I'd be massively surprised if he didn't have access to a copy of the series. You could perhaps offer to send a suitable donation to RAFA or similar to cover the time.

Hmm, on second thoughts copyright may stop this being legal.... worth asking anyway.

Phil,

I have 5 recordings on DVD dated 10/5 24/5 31/5 2/6 14/6

Can't remember the year but I should think it is the series you are interested in.

PM me if they are of any use.

I've got it on ...er... (said quietly).. vhs...if that helps. Only cos I make a fleeting 3 second appearance, and my mum only had a video player.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies and PMs, folks. This was all sorted a few weeks after I first posted about it back in April last year, but it seems that the pprune mafia are still ensuring it's quite available.

P

Oh, and edit: if I hadn't seen that show when it was first out, my entire reason for being here (and then at Marham and Cranwell scouting) would not have arisen. Blame the girly ex rally driver hawk instructor, who is probably completely unaware the havoc she has wrought by proxy.

Combat Pilot

Hi Phil,

Did you manage to get a copy of the series? I too would be interested in obtaining a copy. If you can help I would appreciate it.

Cheers!

Combat Pilot Series

Hi Guys,

Just heard about this 'Combat Pilot' series by the BBC in 2004 and stumbled upon this thread whilst vigorously trying to hunt down a DVD of some sort.

Would appreciate any info on where this may be obtained.

Cheers,

Luke
