The US State Dept. and Secretary of State George Shultz wanted Pres. Ronald Reagan's speech at the Berlin Wall to say: "One day this ugly wall will disappear".
Both Pres. Reagan and the speechwriter who wrote that speech, Peter Robinson, thought that was meaningless and weak... and made sure the correct line was in: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!".
Funny how when people are allowed to express their true feelings that everyone can understand what they mean... and they get results, while editing for diplomatic form and proper "sensitivity" nearly always causes confusion and prevents results.
The Turks, and the Anzacs, etc. all respected each other as warriors and as men... and still do.
