Why would we use one of the huge fleet of MRA4 to employ SS when there are several more ac vastly more suited to fire the damn things?
The pitch I was given by th eproject team several years ago was as follows. With the MRA4s ISTAR capabilty a target can be detected, a decision made by an on board comander, and a weapon fired in a very short time frame.

Makes sense to me.

So, just explain to me, what sort of target is an ISTAR asset going to 'detect' that requires a StormShadow?

Believing anything that an IPT promises is rather naive, I feel.

The nimrod's current overland role could be seriously enhanced with presicion munitions and an vastly improved self defence suite (allowing it to fly at lower levels).

Not only could the troops on the ground be updated as to where enemy/guerilla forces are. Larger threats could quickly and easily be dealt with, with out having to call in a whizzy jet (therefore leading to a time lag from threat determination TO weapon drop) that also can loiter for a limited time period.

Smile History

Knowing the 18Gp way of doing things, it'll probably be 'Paving-slabs' rather than anything else...
I take it that you only know about ancient history then seeing as 18 Gp ceased to exist several years ago, rapidly followed by 3 Gp. We're now 2Gp not that that actually changes the point about paving slabs

History man!

Blimey! I must be getting old - or had too much fun since... On reflection, crazy-paving would be more appropriate.

Well apparently BWoS have churned out 200 Storm Shadows this year alone so having a large delivery platform would be a sensible idea.

Here
