Broon Visits Troops in Iraq

Maybe chemically castrating them would go down better than Gordon "The Axe" Brown dropping in and being pally.
Oh, and for the BBC... Sir Jock Stirrup has a rank. Maybe Auntie would like to use it from time to time.

Good to see that Broon has promised another £100m for Iraqi reconstruction. Shame he wasn't so generous with the op deployment allowance. Having announced it with great flourish and fanfare he then tells the MOD to fund it out of current money . . . why am I surprised? 
btw I wonder whether, having visited the 'frontline', he'll make an inaugural visit to any of the injured in the UK . . . . no? Thought not

Nice that Gordy's providing £100m to help clear up the mess created by his government - will he put some money towards the armed forces as well?

Your average joe reading the paper couldn't care less! neither could I.
As for Gordon Brown visiting troops ! what a load of old tosh trying to look good for the leadership election! he has no right to be there as Chancellor, only the foreign secretary, defence minister or PM should bother visiting and even then I think the troops would rather they didn't.
Would be quite happy to see Royalty, or tasty birds, comedians etc but keep your bloody overweight Politicians at home please.

The Government gave the order and so it would be appropriate for the Government to show support for those servicemen wounded in the execution those orders. That said I personally would far rather meet HMQE2 than some smug little t--t labour politician.
Broon's visit to Iraq reminds me of Hoon's visit when I was out there. Many of my colleagues were ordered to provide an audience for Buff and listen to the orator at work. Regrettably, I was flying at the time, but I would have loved to ask him about CBA, desert boots etc etc. The visit was publicized as 'Hoon's morale-building visit to the Basrah'. I wasn't sure whose morale this referred to until I heard that one of our crewmen had rimmed Hoon's mug with his 'little crewman' when making the man a mug of tea. Couldn't happen to a nicer chap.

Broon is there for one reason only, to look prime ministerial and harden up his image by getting lots of photo opportunities in the Sunday newspapers with soldiers. He is in total agreement with Blair over Iraq war. As a chancellor his remit does not extend to Iraq visits, his only thought is moving into no 10. None of these socialists have served in the military they make decisions from comfortable sofas in Downing St. It would do Broon the world of good to come face to face with the consequences of his decisions. Visiting some young men who have had their legs blown off for his Govt's cause might just register the thought that next time he shouldn't be so quick to go for the military option.

Heard a true story that on a visit to a certain African hellhole, Mister Brown insisted on visiting the worst slum in the city. Despite being told that the UK was funding a really good reconstruction project in a slightly better slum, he refused to go there as he wanted to be seen in a really bad place, cos it looked better.

Will all the candidates for the dep leadership of Noo Liability being going on trips to look dep PM material?

Boy in blue, whilst I admire your commitment to the NHS I would doubt that £100m would go very far in the black hole that is the NHS. Probably get spent on 1000 boob jobs or methedone for Prisoners. Far better to be spent where it is needed. AH, Transport, CVF, a full quota of T45, Pilot training, staving off some of the manpower cutbacks, body armour, Armoured landrovers, fuel, a decent military hospital (Save Haslar!) etc.
