Last great Bear run?

When was the last Bear intercept over the UK?

Has any particular Squadron or indeed crew have the honour of performing the last Bear Intercept and if so where and what were they flying?

For no other reason than my own interest (yes I know that I dont get out very much)!

I understand that six Bears came round the top of Norway and to just off the Northwest of Scotland on Friday 29 Sept.

Last one 'over the UK' was probably the one that flew into RIAT a few years ago?

Bear(s) OVER the UK, and not intercepted until they were there! That's a scenario that would have the high-paid decision takers running to the toilet - even now. Barring flight-plan approved & dip cleared visitors of course .

101 Sqn tanker, August 2006. 3 Russians including at least 1 Bear.

Who says the Cold War's over?

The last intercept of the Cold War era was 2 x Bear Ds on 17 Sep 1991 (I know that rather spotter-ish fact because I controlled it from Saxa Vord!).

There wasn't another for a matter of several years, by which time of course the Bears belonged to the Russian Federation.
