Afghanistan Article.

Anyone care to comment on this article about Afghanistan on the BBC? I fail to see, based on my own counter insurgency training, how we can 'win" in Afghanistan if whats said in this article is substantially correct, and the same situation exists in the rest of the country

Have to agree with you.

Counter-insurgency is more about creating a secure environment where the populace want you rather than the insurgents. It cannot be done by patrolling or forays from secure bases to where you retreat at night once again leaving the field to the insurgents.

It was the tactics employed by the French and the US in South Vietnam and looked what that achieved.
