Sting 1

Interesting to note just how quickly not only the incident, but also the pilot´s name, became known and published in the press....

AFM, Nov 2006: Sep 14 - USAF/52nd FW/22nd FS - F-16CJ - 91-0337 "SP"

The aircraft, callsign "Sting 1", crashed at 1309hrs near Oberkail whilst on approach to Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. The pilot Flt Lt XXXXXX XXXXXXX, ejected safely, suffering only minor injuries. The aircraft had earlier clipped an airfield antenna at Spangdahlem prior to experiencing undercarriage problems. The pilot then orbited whilst specialists from Lockheed Martin were contacted to determine whether the problem could be fixed in mid-air. After failing to resolve the problem before the aircraft became low on fuel, the pilot flew to an open area 10nm (16km) north of the base and ejected.

The post indicates this was an exchange pilot on Weasels? What are you trying to say?

I certainly hope he recovers fully.

It happened on 14th Sep, I got AFM in the post yesterday, 24th Oct, so they must have received all the details of the incident, the aircraft and the pilot´s name and service within, what, a few days of it happening to make the issue?

The pilot's name was published here on the official USAF news pages two days after the event. He was a 1st Lt, not a Flt Lt, and from Utah.
