Thanks - London June 3rd

Thanks for the impromptu airshow over central London on Monday.

I had a sneaky day off work and was v.excited to see my first Merlin in flight, followed sometime later by a 3 ship flight of Lynx, and then later a Puma.....then the mighty Wokka on Tuesday.....what a treat!

Any idea what the occasion was?

Sorry laddie....it was not "given"....we kicked you lot and yer German hired help out and sent you home. Brave men behind rifles and bayonets stood for freedom. That is why we are an "ex-colony" vice a "former colony".

We do thank you for the birthday greeting!

Not without the help of the French you didn't. Lets hope the French take revenge on the divers tonight for their old enemy/allie*

Oooooh, seems like a bit of a raw nerve there, SASless.......

If we managed to get rid of all those irritating Colonial types with poor senses of humour, then huzzah for the good ole U S of A's birthday!

Just don't accuse us of re-writing history on this one! Of course we have to remember we let about 5,000 of the Germans stay behind....and you lot welcomed the French to Canada.

So what's the difference between an 'ex-colony' and a 'former colony', SASless?

One is out of fashion and the other is the first of the two ..... why do we in the U.S. of A. have to always teach you British how to understand your own language?

Zoom,

Your ancestors had the same problem in understanding the difference.

During the Second War of Independence we pointed it out quite clearly to you at New Orleans. Since then your military only comes here as invited guests.

Once the child has broken free of the apron strings, and proved their independence, he tends to make belligerent statements to reinforce the situation. The parent has accepted the coming of age, and nods approvingly, yet the child continues to assert his immaturity.

Twas ever thus. 230 years is only 2.3 times the predicted life of the BUFF!!

But hey, I understand. And I still love the US. Really, I do.

"Since then your military only comes here as invited guests."

Not an observation anyone would be likely to make about your military, however.

Take that back or SASless will dispatch a cruise missile from his personal inventory (all U.S. citizen are given 10 cruise missiles a year for just this sort of situation) with an appropriate warhead to 'An aerodrome somewhere in England'

Ever since the local invention of Saltwater Tea in Boston one night, there has been no Tea Tax paid.

Rich,

In order to lob a strike on Beags....one would have to target a home for Geriatrics in Brighton...say about time for the morning meds! You do recall ol' Beags soloed in Boxkites.

So many Americans, so many myths...
Revere didnt say "the British are coming", he said "the regulars are coming"....'cos Revere was British as was George Washington.....Washington himself was one of the greatest Britons ever.......not an American.
Or was Washington one of the worlds most infamous traitors? Like Lord Haw Haw or Judas Iscariot? All a question of interpretation
Britain was never defeated by Americans during the War of Independence. Britain was defeated by British Colonials aided and abeted by the foul and most foreign French......the French are therefore, Americans oldest nearest and dearest allies...they even gave the USA a lovely little stature to put in the harbour.
Gosh so much to say and so little time to say it in.
All this and more goes down a treat in American bars......"drinks all round if any American in here tonight knows who Admiral Lafayette is" normally is a safe bet downtown Boston
But Happy Birthday anyway

I love the way our trans-pond cousins (which, in a vain attempt at being related to aviation, would make them trans-ponders) think that Americans won that war - they forget that at the time they were British, therefore the British won.

Good one !

However, remember when you had a substantial military? Seems you made a nuisance of yourselves at times as well.........
