Proposed Defence Cuts

I see the Evening Standard is predicting that Brown is forcing upto £1bn of cuts to the defence budget next year to subsidise homeland security and some major defence procurements are for the chop (to late to cancel 192 Typhoon I suppose…) with the most obvious target being the RNs shiny new carriers. Political pundits are saying that Brown is rubbing Blairs nose in the mire and going for max embarrassment for the PM after he cosied up to Chirac last week. Kind of shows what that puritanical, dour scot has got up his sleeve for the rest of us if (when) he gets hold of the reins of power…
