56 Squadron - 90th Anniversary - 24th June 2006
The 'Firebirds' are celebrating 90 glorious years on the 23rd & 24th June 2006. Following the obligatory 9-ship on Friday 23rd, there will be a Sqn Happy Hour in the Officers' Mess at RAF Leuchars. There will be a Sqn Association Dinner in the evening too - Members will be contacted directly by the Association.
The centrepiece of the weekend is a Families Day followed by an evening Hangar Party on Saturday the 24th.
The Families Day will be in the afternoon at the Sqn HQ, RAF Leuchars and includes a number of flying displays including the BBMF, a Hunter, Sopwith SE5A and more modern fighter types! Static displays include Typhoons, F15s and F16s as well as the usual ground attractions and scoff for all ages.
The Hangar Party on the Saturday night features an awesome local band as well as the Radio Tay Disco to get things going. There will be a full bar and lavish buffet as well as a hog roast at the end of the night to beat those 'munchies'.
If you are up to it, we are even playing golf on the Sunday!
Firebirds old and new are warmly invited to the weekend activities - hopefully a weekend of ready-made fun at St Andrews on just about the longest day of the year is quite appealing! Please be aware that places in the Mess and at the Party are limited and we are operating on a first come first served basis. Entry to the Families Day is free and the Hangar Party is £20 a head. It would be great to see you there.

I can't make the trip this weekend, but here's hoping that 56 celebrate in their usual enthusiastic style. 56 was my first squadron and I have many happy memories of the guys, great flying, great detachments and lots of good lessons from the more experienced operators.
Have a good one guys.
