727 Sqn Moving

Word in the pub is that 727 Sqn at Roborough is moving to Yeovilton by the end of the year and they are looking for local QFIs. Anyone know what is going on? Seems like a good idea to base the Sqn at a FAA station.

BRNC - Roborough ~ 35 miles ; BRNC - Yeovilton ~ 80 miles, so it would make sense if the lads/lasses get to live in at VL while on grading.

What's the betting they'll have to go back to BRNC each night?

727, FW trappers, Historics and Heron mooted to share one building at Yeovilton. Probably 815's

I think the cricuit at Yeovs is going to be an absolute nightmare when full of Grobs

Tourist:

When the circuit is full of Grobs? 727 only has five of them and you've just got rid of a load more SHARs than that!

It'll give the bug.gers in Rapps something more to grumble about if you do your circuit flying at Merryfield!

They didn't seem so concerned at the noise the Vampires/Meteors/Sea Hawks and Sea Venoms used to make 50 years ago!

You know, with the youngest grading instructor having well over 6000 instructional hours I suspect his total hours alone pretty well beats the combined total hours of your average SHAR sqn. So I suspect the 727 Sqn chaps know what they're doing.

Interesting news if true. Perhaps this would one day allow the Historics to become viewable to the public, given the FAAM is only next door to 815NAS?

Apparently a large amount of real estate on the south of VL has recently become available. Little Portland for them at last.

Nah, There is now way the forces that be would even consider moving the Lynx force following the disruption suffered by them over the previous few years...... They would have to be completely barking mad to even consider such an option....

Bit like re-naming the top man with the most ridiculous title ever heard....

There is a school of thought that the longer your title then the least worthwhile your job. A concept supported in government. I.E. if you are the assistant deputy secretary then in actual fact you are fairly low down the pecking order.

The new name for our intrepid leader is not only ridiculous but embarrasing.

Bring back a command structure to the Fleet Air Arm PLEASE

rafloo,

Not being Navy, you've lost me! What's the story here?

The post of ACOS (AV) Assistant Chief of Staff (Aviation) has been renamed....

Deputy Assistant undertudy to the Cleaner who once worked at Aviation HQ but now make lunchtime sanwhiches (Carrier Strike).... Or words to that effect. This is based on the fact that if you change a chaps job title it makes the job more important and more supportable whereas in actual fact is erodes the foundations of the command you are supposed to be supporting.

To the Sea Lords that read these pages...Please stop buggering about with my beloved FAA....Bring back a proper and recognised command structure with someone in charge who is recognisable to the troops on the ground.

815NAS could be moved to the old FRADU/SHAR pan on the south-side.

FRADU

Thats what I was hinting at yesterday. As far as I'm aware plans may already be in place.

Don't mention southside - you'll cause rafloo (aka southside) to have a crisis!

On this thread he said:

Yes it is...Its a crock of Poo.

Now who on PPRuNe uses the term and has a poor grasp of English - and reality?

Thats why I didn't! Not to mention the possibility of having posts ignored. When the Lynx force moved up from Portland there was a perception they wanted their own space away from the rest of VL so they could continue the way things had always been done at Portland away from prying eyes. It didn't happen and they got tucked away in the corner. If they don't mind the embuggerance of having to move then the Dark side of VL is ideal.

Yeovilton definitely got a bit noiser when the Lynx' moved in.
You got at least one flying over our old house, located on the Yeovil/Mudford border, every ten minutes!

When they did move in to hangars 13 and 14 in 1998, what was in there previously?
The SHARs and Jetstreams were moved to the former FRADU Hunter pan, but I'm sure that those two weren't housed in there?
