Like many in WWII, just 20 years old, with a wealth of experiences that would humble most. However, how many after being shot down, and imprisoned, can claim to escaping and borrowing a FW190 to get them home again?

50 years of flying, his book is outstanding, there aren't many who have managed what he has. His recounting of displays in Russia are more than amusing, and his battle with the FAA to keep his Med Cat show his determination.

And I thought the C130 J TAC Demo was good on Friday. It would add a new dimension if they turned the engines off for the last 30 secs of the display.

I saw Bob Hoover display a few years ago at the Avalon airshow, He was amazing, one of the most jaw dropping displays i have ever seen

I believe that Yeager, a contemporary of Hoover, regarded him as one of THE very best pilots.

Despite what he says about having no 'special' amount of skill - he certainly has his handling s**t seriously together. I have seen an equally impressive display by a stubby winged aerobatic glider - loops, pushovers. ROTs etc all v close to the ground - well worth a look if you ever get the chance.

The clip was part of the documentary series "Reaching for the Sky(ies)" on the BBC many years ago. Probably one of the best series on flying that I've seen.
