New RHAG markers at BZN.... BZN to take over from LYE as MEDA....

ASM Group has supplied its latest RHAG (Rotary Hydraulic Arrester Gear) marker for the recently resurfaced and newly opened two-mile runway at RAF Brize Norton.
Two triangular shaped, halogen lit, RHAG markers each with a large circular orange retro-reflective centre on two faces, are located either side of the runway, to warn incoming pilots where the active arrestor cable passes across the runway. Part of the recent Runway Resurfacing Project at Brize Norton included the installation of arrester gear that will allow Brize Norton to take over from RAF Lyneham as the Military Emergency Diversion Airfield for the south of the UK.

RAF Brize Norton ceased flying last September as mechanical diggers moved in to take up the old runway surface. The Runway Resurfacing Project, included not only the resurfacing of the runway, but the provision of new ground lighting and associated measures to allow for Category II operations, making Brize Norton the first MoD airfield to be so equipped.
The runway has been made fully operational for the return of VC10’s, Tristars and C17’s from RAF Fairford. This year, work is expected to be completed on strengthening taxiway corners for the arrival of new transport aircraft over the coming years.

Not entirely accurate, Lyneham is staying as a MEDA for the forseeable future.

BZN as MDA

You can be in denial as long as you want guys!

BZN is the future! If it isnt planned as an MDA it da*n well should be, for **** sake it just makes common sense.

I have a lot of sentimental attachment to LYE but its over, let it go!

IIRC BZN was always closed more often than LYE due to the Thames Valley Bowl it sits in....creating a foggy atmosphere.....!!!
My Mrs flew back from MPN to be diverted to MAN because BZN was fogbound...!!!

As for LYE becoming a super base for all choppers,, the local rag has it as Project Belvedere (good name for a chopper base project) !!!!

Cleaner is always a good source of info...after she'd be out of job if it was true about LYE closing !!!
