Red Arrows to be renamed the Blue Bows
Gentleman Aviator
It was hardly her choice to wear the red suit - it's what she was told to do by "the system" aka some very senior, bewinged officers .....
... and as it happens, she was so good at the job that she was extended because no-one of suitable calibre could be found at her normal tourex..
.."I did wear one for 3 years and on the whole enjoyed it, but I am now on a very very long ground tour.....
"....
.... ahhhh! chopped at the OCU then were we? that explains it......

Absolutely, yes I was chopped on the last trip of my OCF and subsequently thrown out of the branch. I won't deny it. And one day, my old deskie will get the favour returned in some way or another.....
However, I stand by what I said about certain ground pers longing to look like pilots. I can understand it: it's very comfortable bar-wear.
And no matter whose decision it was, Air-rank or Sqn boss, it still looks odd.
I would extend the same judgement to a certain F3 SqintO out there who wears a growbag - you know who you are!

Actually to reattack this, the same can be said of certain Stn Cdrs, OC Ops, SLOps and AWC instructors who would all have to enter the CERN particle accelerator to be separated from their 'safety equipment' as they are obviously attached at the sub-nuclear level. It amuses the students no end...!
So let me get this right. You are slating someone you have never met over what she wears to work which is mandated by those in higher authority to herself? You need to get out more - you're starting to sound bitter.
Training Risky
People in glass houses and all that!
You seem to have a real bee in your bonnet about this and yet your profile clearly states a few mistruths. You say you are an RAF pilot who flies/flew Chinooks. Not strictly true if we're going to be honest!
Time to accept your new position in life and get on with it!

TR,
'fraid you've lost it old boy!
I was pretty much with you (almost) until that last post, and then you went 'round the corner, looking like a Richard Head
Lets face it, if you had NOT got chopped, then you too would have worn a grow bag at every opportune moment - just like the rest of us do (or did in my case)
I know the said young lady, and I think your comments are out of order - if here Boss says wear it, then wear it she will (and so should she!)
If you have a problem with that, I can only suggest you take yourself off the palace where her Boss lives and tell him. You can't miss it, its a big place in London with flags flying outside!
Now if you want to bring your argumant back into line, and start on about movers, stackers et al wearing flying suits then I'll be back with you, but don't pick on someone who is, frankly, only doing as she is told.
Kind regards
TSM

Definitely the one to blame - make sure you stick it to them good and proper .

WOOO HOOO... cat, pigeons, GO!
Points to ponder for everyone (In order):
I was not the one who brought said Sqn Ldr into the original discussion, I was merely stating my opinion, in a humourous way, of ground pers who wear growbags (regardless of their choice in the matter). So in this case, not really slating the wearer, but the policy and the said apparel.
And yes I may sound a little bitter, but so are a few other chopped RW pilots who lost their cushy ME careers in the heady days of the post-911 chopfest. I will have to pay for my own doughnuts and ATPL now.
I haven't looked at my profile since 2002, sorry if its not 100% correct, I may get around to changing it one day. (In fact, I've just done it.) Am now heartily 'getting on' with my position as Untermensch.
I certainly would wear a growbag 24/7, if I was still flying. The fact that I don't means that I avoid looking like a aircrew groupie
On the subject of bitterness, if anyone else decides to use the Data Protection Act to read e-mails exchanged between deskies about YOU, then you might appreciate what I am talking about.

I never intended to drag this thread into a slanging match, so feel free to talk about the Blue Bows, or alternatively (if you lack any sense of humour) continue to snipe at BEagle for his banter....

Back when I was a lad, and learning to fly, it was drummed in to us that wearing flying kit in the mess was not officer like. Very non u and so on. Officers were supposed to look like officers at all times. Now this was a long time ago, but I still hold to what I was taught then. Aircrew in the mess should look like the officers they claim to be, and not wear their work clothes. And that applies to all those slobs who wear scruffy jeans trainers and tee ****s around the mess. If they want to look like juniors, they should have joined in the ranks.
As for the wannabe's and the oncewas's; ground crew people wearing aircrew clothing just look silly and loose all their street cred. Their airmen laugh at them behind their backs, and that is not the way to lead.
